more templatery

i think i fixed it. it's probably a matter of time, but for now i'm happier. it was one of those cases that prove that i have no idea what i'm doing with technology.

it's been a weird morning. i'm feeling really uneasy about my job hunting and i've had about 14 heavy breather calls this morning already. i'm in that place where i'm so frustrated with my life that i can't see the positive things. pretty much i'm thinking i'll never get a better job here unless i get a masters in something or start my own business. worries that transcend fat. at the moment.

i have so many ideas. i'd love to start my own business. who wouldn't? make your own hours, be your own boss, be crushed under the weight of every decision? it would be great! i could start a bakery. i'd be too tired to eat any of the cupcakes. two birds, one stone.

ideas welcome.

You should rent time on a printing press and sell homemade stationary out of the trunk of your car. Stationery. Shit, I'm too lazy to look it up.

No suggestions for starting a business, since I'm not too clear what you do now :-) but I started mine 3 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. I love the freedom of working for myself and making my own hours. I was very lucky as an accountant cos I had minimal costs to get started - just a PC, software and some professional fees (I work from home).

I would definitely recommend it if you can come up with a good idea!

What's your field? If you went for a masters, would it be an MBA? Does this appeal to you in itself or would it be a means to an end? Are there opportunities for grad school where you are, or would you look to move? Do you feel like a major change or just a better work situation? If you could be paid to do any of the activities you enjoy, what would it be? Have you ever considered writing? You're funny as hell - I love reading your blog. I'd pay for your books. Sorry - lots of questions and not a lot of help!

i'm a bank teller right now. i wouldn't call it my field, as i went to school for history. the problem with going for a masters is it would still be useless for finding a job here, unless i start teaching. which i've thought about, but will definitely need a few classes to qualify. and it wouldn't be because it was my lifelong dream, you're right about it being a means to an end. i don't know what my dream job would be. baking is something i enjoy, odds on i would grow to hate it if i had to do it everyday. but i can always go back to banking (insert strangle noise here).

I've heard it said that being a professional means doing what you love on days you don't want to do it. So, if you like baking and you become a "professional" baker, you would have to do it even when you didn't want to. But what would you rather do? Do something you don't want to do *every* day instead of just some of the time?

I'd say go for it. Research it and make sure you know how to handle the taxes and legal side of it. You don't want to get hauled off to jail for tax fraud :)

Do be prepared that it might take up a lot of time. I work at a company that's just me and my boss and he spends a lot of time at work.

i was thinking in the way that if i get into it and i hate it i'll be in the same place i am now. but maybe i won't hate it.
